First Meeting of the Steering Committee of the LIFE project

On the 16th of March 2017, the first meeting of the steering committee took place in Prespa. 

The purpose of the Steering Committee is to advise and support the Coordinating Beneficiary of the project, about the conservation and monitoring actions that will be implemented through the project. 

The steering committee consists of 8 members who derive from the 1) Society for the Protection of Prespa, 2) Management Body of the National Park of Prespa, 3) Municipality of Prespes 4) Ministry of Environment and Energy, 5) Decentralised Administration of Epirus-Western Macedonia, 6) Directorate of Environmental and Spatial Planning of Western Macedonia, 7) Water Directorate of the Decentralised Administration of Western Macedonia, 8) Local Land Reclamation Service as well as an Academic prof. Vasilis Papanatasis from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.

At the meeting, the team of the project fully informed the members of the Committee about the targets, actions and expected results of the project. Also, a discussion took place which concerned issues such as the wildfires, the management of the drainage ditches, the feasibility study for alternative uses of reed biomass and the technical studies for the restoration of function of two stream mouths of Mikrolimni and Leukona. Subsequently, a visit was held in the intervention areas, thus obtaining a better overview.
