The annual meeting of the Wetland management Committee (WMC) was held on the 29th of March. This meeting was exceptionally important because 

Spring is here, in Lake Lesser Prespa, where the wet meadows are flooding and a large number of birds gather to feed. 

Yesterday, the first meeting of the Transboundary Wetland Management Committee took place at the Society for the Protection of Prespa, in Laimos.

The influence of climate change is strongly affecting the wetlands, as important bird species are abandoning their nests. The most important reason for this is the shrinking size of their feeding grounds, which is directly related to lower levels of water in the lake.

As part of the project’s preparatory actions, a number of studies have been carried out on various flora and fauna species, the results of which will feed into plans for the management of the reedbeds.

Katerina is one of the Dalmatian pelicans that were ringed and had a transmitter placed on them, in the summer of 2013. During the same year we placed a total of 7 transmitters on pelicans.

The Society for the Protection of Prespa like every year in cooperation with the Management Body of the Prespa National Park participated in the Midwinter Bird Counts,

The notice boards of the E1 action have been placed around the Lesser Prespa Lake. 

As part of systematic monitoring of ferruginous ducks at Lesser Prespa Lake, to determine their habitat use and estimate their population numbers (Action A2), during the most recent count 108 individuals were observed.

June has been a month full of field work, since this time of year is good for all kinds of monitoring.
