On the 28th, 29th and 30th of March On the occasion of the new project “Life Prespa Waterbirds”, presentations to the local communities were held at the coffee shops of the villages Leukona, Mikrolimni and Laimos.
The aim of the presentations were to extensively inform the local people of Prespa about the interventions that will be implemented through the LIFE program in the next 5 years at the Lake Lesser Prespa whereas a lot of emphasis was given to the benefits that the local economy will gain through the actions that will be held.
At Leukona, besides everything else, the issue of the restoration of the stream mouth was extensively discussed, because it directly concerns the locals and especially the professional fishermen. The thick reed bed at the stream mouths, seems to interfere with the movement of the fish to higher reproduction spots influencing their populations.
At the meeting at Mikrolimni, besides other issues, the alternative uses of the reeds were discussed, such as soil conditioner, as mushroom cultivation substrate and structural material. During the presentation in Laimos, were there was the biggest participation of people, one of the issues that was mostly discussed was the usage of reeds for future district heating of public buildings of the Municipality of Prespa, something that attracted the interest of the local people.
On the 31st of March, a presentation of the project was held for the City Council of the Municipality of Prespa with the presence of local stakeholders.
