Reed biomass as soil conditioner

11 Dec 2018

A newly established cooperation with the Centre for Technological Research of Western Macedonia (CTRWM) is expected to decipher the ways reed biomass can be beneficial as soil conditioner locally for agricultural practices. The CTRWM will work with local farmers within their own bean fields, experimenting with the application of reed biomass and assessing its effect on cultivation and production. The location of the experimental plots has been chosen carefully in order to include agricultural soils of different soil composition and thus enable conclusions for a representative range of substrate for the area.  Over the next two months appropriate application of reed biomass will be undertaken on the fields and over the next two years, the CTRWM, will follow closely all aspects of bean cultivation in order to reach conclusions and submit its recommendations on soil conditioning.
