The prolonged drought and high temperatures of this summer forced local farmers to adapt their farming practices to those conditions, with the result that the October rains were catastrophic for a large part of the bean harvest. From the beginning of October until now 176.8 mm of water has fallen, making the level of Lesser Prespa Lake rise by 12 cm, reaching an altitude of 853.38 m within a few short days. Every year the impacts of climate change are becoming more noticeable, with extreme weather phenomena that are unusual for the area and violent changes in the weather being just some of these. The challenges for the environment, local community and economy of Prespa are great and we need an exchange of knowledge and views, co-operation and action so as to be prepared in the face of future changes.
