The picture for great white and Dalmatian pelicans looks good for 2020. Pelicans only very occasionally use their nesting islets at this time of year, so we took the opportunity to go and record their condition, and also see how many chicks didn’t survive this year. Our team found that the islets were in a good condition, whilst only a very few dead great white pelican chicks were recorded. This phenomenon is quite normal, with some of the chicks that were born late in the season not managing to grow fast enough to be able to follow their parents on the long journey to Africa.
