Wetland management continues

04 Nov 2021

A highly active team of cattle farmers, together with SPP & MBPNP personnel, have been mowing reeds around the lake throughout the summer and autumn, with the guidance and help of scientists and local bodies, resulting in more than 300 bales of reed biomass being distributed to local stockbreeders. What’s more, the project’s electric fencing allowed herds to graze in the wetland for longer than usual, so a new electric fence was added in Mikrolimni for the same reason, while the amphibian machine has set about the creation of valuable firebreak zones once again. The LIFE Prespa Waterbirds project was formally completed at the end of September, though the work to cut reeds and manage the wetland continues.
